As we spend more time living in the same house, we inevitably start collecting more and more clutter that fills up our cupboards, drawers, and might even spill out into our rooms. This is never a good look because it’s messy, it’s hard to find things, and it can be fairly embarrassing for people that visit us.

We should all know about the benefits of decluttering. It can make your home look more luxurious, it keeps your home organized, and it can even get you a bit of money. However, there are a couple of reasons why people will consistently fail to get rid of their clutter. But here’s how to fix those problems.

Not actually decluttering

This might sound obvious, but one of the reasons why people fail at decluttering is because they’re not actually trying to declutter. For example, a lot of people that try to declutter will just reorganize the stuff in their home. They’ll shuffle stuff into different boxes and try to pack things tightly, but at the end of the day, they’re not getting rid of anything from their rooms. This might make your home look a little tidier, but the moment you reveal the clutter hidden behind those closed doors, it’s going to be a little embarrassing.

Nowhere to put all your clutter

Another common issue is that people typically don’t have a place to put all of their clutter. Thankfully, there are some simple solutions for this. Ideally, your clutter should either go in the bin, it should be donated, or perhaps even sold. However, if there’s a lot of waste in your home that is cluttering up your storage areas, then you may want to consider a skip bin hire so that you have plenty of space to just dump all of your clutter. Throw it in the bin, call the service again, and they’ll just pick it up and even recycle it for you.

Not having enough time to declutter

Some people just don’t really have the time it takes to declutter. A lot of people underestimate just how much time it really takes to get rid of clutter, so we highly recommend that you try and dedicate some time to it. Even if it’s just a weekend or skipping a meet up with your friends for one week, you need to have time if you want to declutter. If you fail this, then you’re likely going to end up with loads of boxes and random things around the room.

Not Enough Storage

In order to keep your house clean and tidy, you need to have sufficient storage space so that you can put your stuff out of sight so that it can then be out of mind. Lacking enough storage will force you to keep piles of items in each room, encouraging your home to look as disorganized and chaotic as ever. Taking the time to invest in a variety of innovative storage options can help you to change this completely, as just a couple of key investments can remove masses of clutter from your home. Having a storage bench in your children’s bedroom or playroom is ideal, as you can fill it to the brim with toys and close it shut to give off the impression of a simple seat! Multifunctional storage techniques such as these can be of real benefit if you’re aiming to maintain a theme or style, as they will not detract from your interior design. More handy storage options include things like an audio cable management system to keep your wires tidy, vacuum sealed storage for seasonal items and even extra cupboards filling the space in between your existing cupboards and the ceiling inside your kitchen. The more storage that you are able to maintain inside your home, the more organized it can become and subsequently stay.

Lacking the motivation to declutter

Lastly, make sure you have the motivation to declutter your home. One of the biggest sources of motivation is just the fact that you’ll have a clear home. However, others might be more interested in selling their clutter. You can find a lot of sellable items in your home, especially if you have a lot of collectable items or electronics that are still worth a decent amount of money. If the items aren’t really worth much, then they could be worth more as scrap or after recycling.
