Who doesn’t want to reduce their household bills? If you feel that you are definitely overpaying for your electricity, gas and water, you might want to know about some of the most powerful ways to overcome this problem. As it happens, it is pretty much always possible to reduce your household bills as long as you know how to approach it, so this is something that is really worth looking into. In this post, we are going to take you through just a few examples of how you might be able to do this in the new financial year.

Go Green

One of the best things you can do here is to take a look at your energy supply and see whether you might be able to switch it out to a greener option. The great thing about many of the green ways of getting energy is that they tend to be both better for the planet and better for your bank balance. Of particular interest is a community solar project like choosesolar, where you don’t even need to have your own solar panels installed. These options are likely to become more and more viable in the next few years.

Haggle Prices

Most people don’t want to spend time haggling the prices down on their energy tariffs, but this is one of the simplest things you can actually do. You might not think it is possible, or you might lack the confidence you feel is necessary to make it work, but if you just do it you will find there is no big deal around it actually. The companies are usually quite responsive to it, so it’s something that is worth looking into. You can simply call them and ask for a better price, and see what they say. You might be surprised.

Check Your Banding

For many costs, there are various bands that you are likely to have been put into, and these determine how much you need to pay each year. A good example is the council tax system in the UK, where a higher band means a higher price. But you’d be amazed at how often people are accidentally put into the wrong band, so by double checking your banding you could actually end up saving a lot of money each year. It’s worth a look, as you never know whether you might have been overpaying. You might also be due a refund, if so.

Maintain Your Appliances

The more efficiently your appliances and machines run, the less energy they are going to use. So you should make a point of maintaining your appliances as best as you can. Often, it is worth paying out for a repair if it means you will save even more money in the long run. If you allow your refrigerator to just get worse, however, you might find that you are going to run into problems with your energy bills over time. It’s always worth upgrading these items where possible and necessary.
