Although commercials can be irritating when they appear in between episodes of your favourite show (especially when there is a major plot twist), they are necessary for television to function. They not only keep you informed of new and exciting goods or services that can improve your life, but they also contribute to the costs of maintaining a television show. Having said that, there are a few advertisements that have stuck with us due to their brilliant execution. Here are some of the most unforgettable advertisements to date, ranging from catchy tunes to downright brilliant ads.

Yellow Pages
Starring James Nesbitt, this hilarious advert shows an uncle giving his niece a DIY haircut because he doesn’t want to spend the money at a hair salon. When things inevitably go wrong, the girl’s mother walks in and is understandably, horrified. He then cleverly uses the Yellow Pages to call a salon and ask them for a little favour – him “telling them off” while the mother looks on from outside the salon in the car. Have a good laugh yourself by watching it here. It’s definitely a classic that we won’t forget anytime soon!
ShamWow
Nothing compares to seeing Vince Offer dazzle us with his incredible cloth that soaks up anything and everything. Many people are unimpressed by products jammed in their faces on commercials, particularly when they are eager to return to their television show. But, don’t you believe that ShamWow is a commodity that everybody wants in their lives, and Vince Offer is the man to provide it?
John Lewis
We all know that John Lewis have released some very memorable adverts in their time, but today we’re talking about the Elton John special where he looks back on his career and how a piano started it all. Featuring some of his most classic songs, of course, this advert pulled on many people’s heart strings and left a mark that will be there for a long time.
Dairy Milk
Dairy milk is another brand that has created some pretty memorable commercials, but none quite compare to the Gorilla drumming to Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”. At the time there was nothing else like it around, and there was something oh-so-hilarious about seeing a Gorilla take to the drums and kill the drum solo with style. It’s been 14 years since that advert was first aired and it’s something that’s going to stay in the back of people’s minds for even longer to come.
IRN-BRU
Finally, IRN-BRU created a very clever advert using the classic Christmas Film “The Snowman”. With the usual “We’re Walking In The Air” song playing (you know the scene), they changed the lyrics to “I’m sipping on an IRN-BRU”. Not only is it playful with the actual song, but it encourages viewers to think of the brand everytime they hear the original song too. Even though it was aired in 2007, we still think of IRN-BRU when we hear the original song! Very clever indeed!
