I love the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series, in fact, I collected them for many years. I wasn’t familiar with the line of pet foods that they offer. Little did I know they have been offering holistic pet food for more than 10 years now. Both the dry and wet pet food products contain real meat as the first ingredient, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. There is no added corn, wheat, soy, artificial coloring, flavoring or preservatives and it is made in the USA.

I was sent a few samples for my three cats, all a different stage, which I love since all of them are different ages and therefore, have different nutritional needs. Along with the samples, Chicken Soup for the Soul Brand Pet Food wanted me to write why my pet is my hero, an initiative they have currently running and you can learn more about later in this post. Since I have three cats, I will explain why each one is my hero.

Ollie is our oldest. We rescued Ollie when he was 9 months old. We had recently lost our family dog and my 5-year-old son didn’t quite understand the loss. I knew I wanted to get another pet for my son but really didn’t have any solid plans until we saw Ollie and it was love at first sight between he and my son. He is my hero because he came into out lives when we needed him the most, whether we knew it or not.

Cut to 11 years later and he is the king of the house. He definitely has some quirks, and is super picky when it comes to cat food, so I was super surprised when he went right for the Chicken Soup for the Soul Cat Food. I gave Ollie the Weight & Mature Care and as you can see he loved it.

Next, we have Cheeto, a very spirited boy, to put it nicely. He definitely had a personality all his own. That all changed when we almost lost him. We had taken him in to get neutered, a normal operation that Vets do on a daily basis, or so we thought. They sent him home and he wasn’t recovering, in fact, he was super sick. At one point I looked into his eyes and I knew that he was dying, I just knew it, so we rushed him to the hospital. He had contracted a serious infection that was apparently quite rare and was seriously ill and near death like I said. I knew looking into his eyes that I was losing him and I had to do everything in my power to save him. I think he knows this, to this day because he is my shadow. He is my hero because he is strong and a fighter.

Cheeto will pretty much eat anything you give him so I didn’t think he would have any problem liking the food, and as you can see, he couldn’t get enough of it.

Now we come to the baby of the bunch, Mia or as my husband likes to call her “Baby Kitty”. She was living in our alley, for weeks she survived on bits of food people would put out for her. She came to my attention when a neighbor asked if we wanted her and I said that I would snap a picture of her and share it online in hopes of finding her a home, we never found her owners. We took her in and my youngest son and my husband fell in love with her immediately. She was a tough nut to crack though, I think being outside for who knows how long gave her some feral attributes but after two years she is finally warming up. She is my hero because she is a survivor.

Mia also likes just about any food, and this was no exception. She gobbled it down, the entire bowl!

Chicken Soup for the Soul Brand Pet Food knows how much our pets mean to us and they want to hear about your pet. Show them why your pet is your hero for a chance for you and your pet to appear on Chicken Soup for the Soul’s Hidden Heroes on the CBS Saturday morning lineup.
