Have you ever wanted to make your own chocolate? I’m talking about creating it from scratch. Now you can with The Make Your Own Chocolate Kit from Glee Gum.
Previously, I was able to review the Make Your Own Gum Kit and now I have the pleasure of reviewing the Chocolate Kit. I used this opportunity to also teach my son about how chocolate is made, and the kit made it an easy lesson to teach.
Here is what you receive in the kit:
You will find the following: organic cocoa butter, cocoa powder, confectioner’s sugar, starter crystals, a temperature indicator, paper candy liners, instructions, and the story of chocolate.
The first thing you do is melt the cocoa butter in a microwave safe bowl.
Then add the cocoa powder and sugar – I let my son do this part.
Mix all of the ingredients together and then place back in the microwave for another 10 secs. Then you need to stir like crazy to get the chocolate to temper. It comes with a neat little thermometer that you stick to the bowl that lets you know when it’s ready. Then it’s time to add the starter crystals, and stir again until tempered.
Once everything is combined and cooled enough, it’s time to pour the chocolate into the little paper cups they provide. It makes about 25 dark chocolates in total, I didn’t make as many because I as a little too heavy handed on the pouring side.
Now all you have to do is place in the fridge for about 15 minutes in order for the chocolates to set and ta da! You have homemade chocolates!
Nik and I had a blast checking out the cacao beans that came in the kit. We even tried the raw bean, but I think we prefer it when all the ingredients are added 😉 He was so excited and proud that that “he” made chocolate!
The kit is fun, educational and just a blast to do. It would make a wonderful present for kids and parents alike. Right now they are offering 30% off of the Candy Kit Combo.
