Ways to Build Your Facebook Fanbase without Alienating Page Owners
My fan page is very precious to me, I have worked countless hours building a fan base and going from 0 to over 20,000 in about a year and a half. I can honestly say that I am happy with the progression, it may seem slow in comparison to other sites, but I did it my way (You know you are singing Frank Sinatra right now, aren’t you? 🙂
So here are my tips……….
HOW NOT TO GO ABOUT GETTING FANS
- Don’t tag a page and say “I liked you, now like me back” – this will get you put into my spam folder faster than you can hit share.
- Don’t tag a page and say “Please send me some fans” – Really?
- Don’t share your page and promise to give away xy and z or discounts. I am not a circular for your advertisements.
- Don’t expect a return post just because you said “Hi” – if I did this I would be posting back to other pages all day, I have a page to run!
- Don’t spam a million pages in the same niche, 9 times out of 10, we all know one another and will end up banning you for fly by spamming.
- Don’t bombard your page friends with “post this and link me back” emails. Most of us get hundreds of emails a day and can’t possibly post everything you send.
WHAT TO DO TO GAIN MORE FANS
- Try developing a relationship with a page first, comment on the posts, send an email, ASK for a shout-out …a mutual shout-out.
- Build up your actual site before trying to beef up your Facebook page. I see so many pages that rely on Facebook for traffic and have blogs that are barely touched.
- Get on Twitter! Seriously, you are missing out by not posting there. Set up your posts to auto-post on Twitter if you must but don’t forget to interact with your followers and with Brands!
- Manually post. When you are more personal with your readers, they will feel connected and actually want to share your page with their family and friends. It worked for me!
- Offer a giveaway that you know your fans will love. They will share, and new fans will come!
- Make friends with other bloggers and support one another, this can lead to co-hosting giveaways, shout-outs, sharing deals and guest posting – all of which help build your page.
Do you have any tips of your own? I’d love to hear them!
