On my journey to becoming gluten free, I have come across many, many gluten-free products, mostly pasta’s since that was my first trigger food. I have tried some really great products, and some really not so great products, but with changing the entire way you eat, there are some trials and tribulations that are bound to come along with it.
One brand that I had not tried until recently, is Van’s Natural Foods. I had been meaning to try their waffles since a friend of mine had raved about them, but I always forgot to look for them. I was happy to be able to get the chance to try several of their other great products and offer a review and giveaway to my readers.
First up to try, Cinnamon Heaven and Honey Nut Crunch cereals. First reaction….YUMMO! I am not a huge cereal eater, but when I do want some I was so disappointed at the selection I had to choose from. Van’s offers these cereals and also a hot cereal called Ancient Grains. Both of the cereals are delicious and have just the right amount of flavor, not overpowering like other cereals, and they also stay crunchy in milk, which is a good thing if you hate soggy cereal.
Next on the menu – Crackers! I love crackers and missed them so much when I had to cut out gluten. I had tried a few other brands but hated how dry and crumbly they were.
Van’s offers three amazing flavors; Say Cheese!, Lots of Everything! and Multigrain.
The first box I tried were the Say Cheese! crackers, and then they immediately disappeared into the hands of my 9 year old. They were delicious, crunchy, not dry and full of flavor! Definitely a favorite.
The Lots of Everything! crackers I had to myself since the boys and the hubby don’t care for the onion/zesty flavor, but I loved them! They are filled with oats, brown rice, millet, quinoa and amaranth, and are super crisp and zesty!
My husband and I both enjoyed the Multigrain. Again, super crispy, nice flavor and are perfect paired with cheese or used for dips or salsa.
I have to say, the crackers rocked my socks off, and I will definitely be buying more of them the next time I hit the grocery store.
Last, but certainly not least, Van’s snack bars – Chocolate Chip, Cranberry Almond, and Peanut Butter Chocolate. All three flavors were a huge hit in this house. If you want something to satisfy your sweet tooth that is full of healthy whole grains and fiber, then these are what the Doctor ordered.
The boys loved the Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter Chocolate bars, and I loved the Cranberry Almond. All of the bars a soft and chewy and bursting with so much flavor that you definitely feel like you are cheating on your diet. I have been having one for breakfast, since I am so not a breakfast type person. They really taste like someone just freshly baked them for you.
Overall, I am very happy with all of the Van’s Natural Foods products, and even happier that my boys love them too. Going gluten-free, and being the only one in the house of a special diet can be taxing on my grocery bill, but since the boys love the same products I don’t have to worry about buying other snack foods.
