Looks like we have a new game to play during our Family Game Nights! Scrabble Turbo Slam is the newest game from Hasbro……

I have two boys, 7 (he will be 8 in October) and 13, and with the little guy still learning to spell, we were excited to play Scrabble Turbo Slam. This is not your Momma’s Scrabble though, gone are the little tiles and the big board, there’s no counting up scores and there is no waiting for another player to place a word.

Scrabble Turbo Slam is face paced, good old spelling fun with a twist! The first time we played, it was just me and the boys. All you need to play is conveniently enclosed within the Turbo Slam unit. Just pop in 3 AAA batteries, flip it over to take out the cards that are stored underneath the unit and start by placing a four letter word on the table.

Instead of tiles, you have playing cards that are double-sided with letters printed on both sides. Once the four letter word is placed, then you deal out the rest of the cards and start the timer. Then the fun begins! Each player places cards as fast as they can to make new words from the orginal. But you have to stay focused and listen to the Turbo Slam unit, once you hear the Turbo Slam sound, you smack the unit, the first to do so gets to pick up an action card.

The action card will tell you various actions to take, from giving cards to other players, discarding cards or taking cards from other players. There is also a challenge button, so if you don’t think a word is correct, you can pause the game and press Challenge to make them prove the word is actually a real word.

The person who runs out of cards first wins! Then you can press the Victory button to hear a celebratory song and do a a little dance if you so desire, my son did 🙂

We later grabbed Dad and made him play and had the best time ever! Warning! You WILL have your hand slapped, seriously, mine was slapped so many times I thought I was being reprimanded, LOL – It’s super fun though, even with the slapping. I think that’s what my boys liked the best!

I definitely would recommend this game to everyone, it really is a great way to spend an evening, especially one hiding out from a hurricane 😉
