What a crazy week for weather! We are in the sites of  Irene, a huge hurricane that is due to hit tomorrow night into Sunday. This is after our surprise Earthquake the other day. Mother Nature is sure not a happy this week, or perhaps just reminding us she is here 🙂Â
So because of all of these rare weather occurrences, my husband has been on Sump Pump watch. Our basement tends to take in water every single time it rains, so we are almost 100% sure that we are gonna have a nice wet basement before the weekend is over since the threat of flooding is pretty high.
I decided to look up sump pump installation and information about getting them serviced for future storms since it’s a little late for this one. We had an issue with ours in the past with the pipes coming out of the wall. It was due to the vibration of the pump running and then knocking the main pipe loose. Let me tell you, coming down the basement and seeing water spraying all over, is not a good sight to see, so it’s a good idea to have a back-up plan if something should happen so you can get your plumbing repaired.
The other thing we made sure of today, was that our sump pump installation and or repair was covered on our home owner’s insurance policy, which it was. Thankfully my husband decided to take a peek at it to make sure we were covered for the impending storm and possible damage.
So as we wait for Irene to come and go, and hopefully spare our basement (not gonna happne, but I can hope), we will be on sump pump watch and moving things around in the basement to prepare.
Be safe out there if you are in the path of this storm and make sure your sump pump is working if you have one!
