Uncle Ben’s has a great whole grain white rice that my kids absolutely loved. They love rice anyway, and at any given moment we have rice of all kinds in our pantry but usually they eat regular white rice.  I have been trying to switch up all of the “white” foods in our pantry to whole grain and have successfully done so with breads and pastas and with no backlash.

I made the Uncle Ben’s Whole Grain White per the package instructions but added a chicken bouillon to give it some flavor. I don’t think it really needed though after tasting the finished product. It was so much better than regular rice and had a very distinct flavor. The boys loved it and we had it with corn and fish.

Here’s a  really quick and easy rice recipe that I made one evening:

Rice with Mushrooms

  • 1 package of Uncle Ben’s Whole Grain Rice
  • 1 small can of mushrooms or use fresh if inclined
  • Chives
  • Butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cook rice per package instructions. In a small skillet, melt one teaspoon of butter, add mushrooms and sauté. Add rice to mushrooms, add salt and pepper and stir. Remove and place in serving dish and sprinkle with chopped chives.
