I had asked a question on Twitter ifs anyone had used Almond milk in a smoothie when I received a response from Ryan who said that his wife used it in her Shakeology shakes. Never hearing of Shakeology shakes before, I of course asked about it and he was nice enough to send me two samples to try and review for you all.
Shakeology shakes are meal replacement shakes that contain over 70 healthy ingredients to help you lose weight, feel energized and improve digestion and regularity. Since I could use some help in all of those areas, especially the energy part, I thought I would give them a try. You can use the shakes as part of a program or just as a dietary supplement.
I received the chocolate and the green berry shakes. They come in a 1.7 oz single serve packet and are ready to mix with whatever you want to mix it with. They suggest, milk, soy milk, rice milk and even water. I choose to try the chocolate first by mixing it with almond milk since he said his wife loved them. I used an immersion blender and it turned out like a really thick chocolate shake, really thick.
The chocolate flavor was delicious and it was extremely filling and since I hadn’t eaten, I treated like a meal replacement drink. The next day I decided to make the green berry shake and I will admit, the color freaked me out some, drinking anything green just feels weird. I did use the almond milk again since I liked the texture it gave the chocolate one and almond milk doesn’t have such a strong flavor that it would taste weird with the berry flavor. The flavor was great, very refreshing. I do prefer the chocolate, but I am a chocoholic, so to each their own. Just a funny side note, when my kids saw me drinking the green shake they asked what in the world was I drinking and I told them it was a Shrek shake 🙂
So what are the 70+ ingredients in Shakeology shakes? They are chock full of protein, essential amino acids, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, prebiotics, vitamins & minerals, phytonutrients and are gluten-free (good thing for me) and caffeine-free.
If you would like to learn more about the ingredients, the Shakeology site has great resources plus success stories of people who have used the product. You can purchase a 24 pack of the single serve packets for $119.95. They also provide a 30-day Money Back Guarantee.
If you have any questions, I would be happy to pass them along, just leave a comment on this post. Thanks!
