Imagine this, you wake up one morning and you look in the mirror only to find that you have been rated. You literally have a star rating that is floating over your head. That’s exactly what happens to Maggie in the indie film RATED.
RATED was written and directed by actor John Fortson, he along with his wife and children star in the film. Christie Lynn Smith is Maggie, the harried Mom who like a lot of us is just trying to get through her busy morning until her daughter Hannah (Abby Ryder Fortson) notices that she has stars floating above her head.
Once Maggie sees she has 2 1/2 stars and her husband has 5 stars, she starts spiraling and wants to hide in the house. She doesn’t want other people to judge her for only having 2 1/2 stars. This sends the movie into the direction of self-reflection, she starts wondering why she was rated so low and then gets a glimpse of herself and how she treats people on a daily basis. She’s a little curt, a little rushed, and probably does deserve those stars. As her daughter Hannah says….

Isn’t that the truth? Think about your day to day, we are always looking for validation in some way, especially with social media. We are looking for a like, a retweet, and heart on everything we post. What if RATED was real and we wore those ratings for everyone to see. I bet people would change, I bet they think about how they treated people online and in real life. I bet they would be more empathetic. Don’t you?
