If you are a movie fan, then you will know that a lot of action movies are actually based on comic books. If you have never read a comic book before then you may have no idea where to start. This is understandable, and that is why this guide is fully designed to ease you into your journey through the comic book multiverse.

You Don’t Need to Start at the First Issue

A lot of people think that they need to begin at issue one. This is not the case at all. For a lot of readers, the very first issue that they picked up was not issue one. It was somewhere in the 100’s. Even though you may not know the backstory, you will soon find that it is easy for you to get up to speed with characters and that you can easily get the answers you need online. As long as you are enjoying the story and the characters, it doesn’t matter at all where you start.

Comics are Not hard to Find

Comic books might not be everywhere, but that doesn’t mean that they are hard to find. From stores to bookshops and even on apps, it’s safe to say that comic books can be found in multiple places.

Comic Book Store Owners are Helpful

If you have never come into contact with a comic book store owner in the past, then you may have been led astray. So many TV shows portray comic book store owners as being geeks, but this is not the case. They are actually helpful, passionate and friendly about what they do. They are also more than willing to help you and have a chat with you about all kinds of things.  They want to accommodate you and they also want to do everything they can to give you the support you need to embark on your journey. Dan Mintz, CEO of DMG has posted quite a few interesting articles on the state of the comic book world if you want to find out more about that.

Comics aren’t Only About Superheroes

Even though the most popular comic books out there are about superheroes, there are a huge range of genres out there for you to choose from. They are often represented as being superheroes, but there are also fantasy books and even horror ones too. If you’re a fan of crime movies or spy tales, then comic books are out there for that. As if that wasn’t enough, you also have topics such as war, adventure and romance. Some genres will take some research to find but at the end of the day, you won’t find much that hasn’t been covered.

You Won’t Get Confused by the Story

Stan Lee is credited as stating that every comic is somebody’s first. Writers have to keep in mind that the storytelling techniques they use will need to cover those who have never read a comic before. For this reason, you will often see recaps at the start of every comic you read.
