When I was presented the chance to review Heelys myself, at first I was nervous – Me on Heely’s? I think not, Momma hasn’t been on any kind of “wheels” in over 20 years! LOL. I do however have a very adventurous 7 year old, so I took the option of having him try out these awesome shoes.

We looked at all of the styles of Heelys that were available an decided on Double Threat because they were “Cool Looking.”

We received our Heelys in record time and as soon as we opened the box, we put them together, which was easy as 1 2 3.  All you have to do is pop the heel plug with the heel plug remover and simply just pop in the wheel, that’s it. Once you take them off, just squeeze the side of the heel and the wheel will pop out and you can replace the heel plug and wear them as regular shoes. The shoes themselves are made of  high quality material and again “look cool.”

Once we put the Heelys together, Nikolas put them on and we started practicing. What I love about them is that they gave you instructions on how to use them and encourage you to practice before running outside to try them. Good thing, because practice is definitely recommended.

Our little guy had us cracking up, because learning how to use them is definitely a site to see. We were holding him up as he tried to balance, and was laughing the whole time, and having a ton of fun.  We practiced in the house since we have wood floors, figured it was safer than concrete for his first try but I do suggest having you child wear a helmet and elbow and knee pads while they are learning, and skating, just to be safe!

(Our pictures were taken solely to show off the shoes, he did not skate without safety measures.)

There is a great video on the basics of skating with Heelys on their website, and it’s a great way to get an idea of how you will like them once you get them home.

As I stated at the beginning, they do make them for Adults, so if you are looking for a great way to stay active and aren’t accident prone like I am, and a scardy cat ;), then get a pair for yourself as well as for your children. You can buy Heelys on Amazonir?t=httpwwwehow0a 20&l=as2&o=1&a=B004BJ16DG&camp=217145&creative=399373 or you can find a store near you.

To see what others are doing with their Heelys, check out Heelys YouTube page for some amazing videos. You can also like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to stay up to date with all of the latest news.

Disclosure: I was provided with a pair of Heelys to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% my own.

  1. My daughter is on her second pair (the 1st was a gift). She loves them & wears them whenever we go shopping. Costco won’t let her roll in then but other stores are ok with it. I won’t dare try them myself tho.

    1. Sheronna, I’m right there with you, there is no way I would try them, I don’t need to be 40 with a broken arm LOL!

  2. I thought these were cute, but my kids wouldn’t go anywhere near them! They are athletes and Nike purests!! (and I can’t blame them, being an athlete myself – they must get it from me! I taught them too well…haha!)
They want their rollers on their skateboards and bicycles …not their shoes! lol!

And if they are over 5….there are so many cool options like Digg’s “glow in the dark” or Nike and Adidas with the ipod hook-ups, etc….everything’s so high tech today and ups the cool and functional factor.

I love the idea, though, but I guess it’s more of a novelty thing, maybe for the the wee little ones?

I just know none of my kiddos would go for them. 🙁

    1. They are cute, but understand how kids can be. Luckily mine is young enough that he doesn’t have any brand loyalties and to him it’s just fun 🙂 You should try a Pair! They aren’t just for kiddies!
