Did you know that 73 percent of consumers are more likely to buy a product if they know it is certified natural?

I have a ton of allergies to beauty items, so I know personally I look for items that are natural. There is nothing like spending a ton of money on something that you end up not be able to use.  Now there is a way to find items that are certified natural so you don’t have to worry about a product being a waste of money, or worse, causing health issues.

The Natural Seal from the Natural Products Association is the first and only natural certification in the country.

Founded in 1936, the Natural Products Association is the nation’s largest and oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to the natural products industry. NPA represents over 1,900 members accounting for more than 10,000 retail, manufacturing, wholesale, and distribution locations of natural products, including foods, dietary supplements, and health/beauty aids. NPA unites a diverse membership, from the smallest health food store to the largest dietary supplement manufacturer.

NPA is recognized for its strong lobbying presence in Washington, D.C., where it serves as the industry watchdog on regulatory and legislative issues. In 1994, NPA played a key role in the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). This important legislation strikes a balance between the need for consumers to have access to and information about safe and effective dietary supplements while also preserving the government’s interest in protecting the public from unsafe products and false and misleading claims.

NPA also has five regional offices located throughout the United States and is governed by a 22-member board of directors representing all segments of the industry.

Products with the Natural Seal are certified to:

  • Contain at least 95 percent natural ingredients or those coming from natural sources (excluding water);
  • Avoid ingredients with health risks;
  • Do not use animal testing; and
  • Include biodegradable or recycled material in the packing.

There are currently hundreds of personal care products certified with the Natural Seal. I received a few items with the Natural Seal Certification to try.

My favorite is the Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm, that comes in a cardboard tube. I love the packaging and the lip balm goes on smooth and doesn’t smell like perfume or chemicals. I also love the J.R. Watkins Hand Cream because it didn’t break me out like most hand creams do.

If you are looking for gifts this holiday season that you know are Natural, then please check out the Natural Products Association and be sure to keep an eye out for the Natural Seal!
