Sequels can go one of two ways – better than or worse than the first in a series. In the case of the Avengers, it was definitely the former. The story picks up some time after the events of the first movie and has the Avengers cleaning up the remaining Hydra bases and the creation of Ultron ensues. I don’t want to say more in case you haven’t seen the movie.

The development of the characters continued in their own movies, but their development as a team was showcased in the opening scenes of the movie and are, to say the least, really well done. The characters become even more fleshed out and the a real connection is created in each of them and between them. If you have seen any of his previous works you will understand when I say this, thank you, Mr. Whedon. All the special effects in the world cannot make up for poor character development, something that is not a problem in the Marvel franchise. The banter in the movie is perfect, the action is fantastic and the bad guy, well, there are times when he makes sense and there are times when he’s a real baddie. Ultron is portrayed perfectly and the voice acting is sublime on his character.

If, like me, you are collecting all the Marvel movies then this is a must-have in your collection. The movie is really very well done and, since I just played catch up, continues to tie into the S.H.I.E.L.D. television show. I just want Coleson to make a comeback to the Avengers movies.
