In July I visited New York for the first ever Blogger Bash conference. There were a billion hotels to choose from but one that stuck out all on it’s own…Yotel.
First, the location was awesome! I was literally just a few blocks from my conference, so close that I could walk to and from in no time. It is also right around the corner from Times Square, so I was able to walk there on my last night and cross that off my to do list.
My main reason for choosing Yotel was the discount given to the conference, and the proximity to the event. The other reason was purely based on looks and what I read online, this place just looked too cool not to stay there.
When I pulled up to the hotel I had a very nice gentleman help me with my bag into the hotel and from there I was on my own, literally. There are self check in stations that sort of look like ATM’s that are located on one side of the lobby and you just input your information and bam, you are checked in. I was meeting a friend and arrived early and assumed I wouldn’t be able to check in at 11 am, but was surprised when I could.
The elevators in the lobby go up to Ground Control, this is the hub of the hotel. There are live people to help you if you need it, restaurants, bars, a workout room and more. From that floor you take another set of elevators to the cabins, all the while listening to tunes from your childhood like Schoolhouse Rock – LOVE!
The room itself is what I kept referring to as a space ship cabin, but someone else said that they were going for a cruise ship type of cabin feel. I get that. It was very small, but perfect for one person and the view was amazing! If I had a roommate, which I was supposed to have had, it would be a little awkward with the bathroom being so open and the only privacy being a curtain but for someone by themselves it was perfect.
All the amenities were on point and for the most part it was quiet. I did have some visitors on my last night outside of my window below my room and then found them sleeping out there the next day, but I was so tired from my day that they didn’t really bother me. Ahh, to be that young again 🙂
My only con about the room itself was the bed, it was super hard, although it was adjustable, just wish it didn’t feel like sleeping on the floor. A friend did say that they changed out her mattress for a softer one, so if it is too much of an issue it’s good to know you can do that.
Another feature was the galley located on every floor where you can get coffee, soda, ice, and even store food in the mini-fridge. It was a great feature to have since there isn’t room service available.
Yotel also looks awesome at night as you can see, and the best part, the Yobot, a robotic bellman if you will.
Take a look for yourself….
