Coco: The Official Cookbook

By Gino Garcia

Celebrate Día de Los Muertos with over 50 recipes inspired by the Land of the Dead! Filled with sweet treats, appetizers, main courses, and delicious drinks, this cookbook includes dozens of authentic Mexican dishes and all of the meals that the Riveras offer to their loved ones on the other side!

Coco: The Official Cookbook features step-by-step instructions and full-color images so cocineros of any age or skill level can learn to prepare traditional Mexican treats, such as churros and tamales, for serving to family and friends at the table or placing on the ofrenda for those who have crossed to the other side.

Recipes include:

  • Champurrado
  • Garden Salad with Creamy Pepita Dressing
  • Elote Callejero
  • Papaya with Coconut and Chile
  • Grilled Steak Tacos with Chorizo Pinto Beans
  • Pan de Muerto
  • Barbacoa de Pollo
  • Concha
  • And so many more!

This cookbook is not only an amazing must-have for fans of the movie CoCo but for anyone who wants to learn how to make traditional Mexican fare. The introduction written by Chef Gino Garcia talks about the movie and the impact that it had not only on him but his culture and how through his recipes, we can relive our favorite parts of the movie but also inspire us to create our own food memories within our families.

I love that they include an ingredient guide because, for me, a lot of these recipes call for items that I am not familiar with so this is very helpful. Like the other cookbooks from Insight Editions, there’s also a Dietary guide in the back of the book for people who have restrictions which is a greatly appreciated addition.

The book is also beautiful to just look through with colorful pictures from the film and gorgeous photos of the food. It really makes you want to make all the recipes!
