The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely, and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In this epic journey into the world of dinosaurs, an apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
My Review:
The Good Dinosaur tells the story of Arlo, the smallest of a family of dinosaurs who live on a farm that they run. Arlo is desperate to “make his mark” like his parents and older siblings but seems to always fall short. His father then shows him how to face his fears and gives him the task of catching a critter. What he catches is a Spot, a little boy.
Arlo’s Dad makes him track the critter along the river, this is where things take a turn and Arlo steps up. He meets the critter again and ends up falling into the river and away from his family. This takes him on an incredible journey, one that is funny in some parts and pretty sad during others. As his journey continues, so does his friendship with Spot.
There are some really great scenes, and visually it is quite stunning. You will think you are watching a live-action movie in some scenes, that’s how well done it is. There are some sad scenes and one that may be too much for some children and maybe some adults since I did get a little squeamish.

The release also includes BONUS features such as the Academy Award© Nominated Theatrical Short “Sanjay’s Super Team.” This short is amazing. While at Pixar I heard how the short came about from animator Sanjay Patel.
Another bonus is TRUE LIES ABOUT DINOSAURS – Learn more about what separates the fictional dinosaurs of “The Good Dinosaur“ from what scientists know about real dinosaurs. I love getting the back story on how these movies come to being, from the design to dreaming up the characters. Seeing all the special bonus features took me back to the my time listening to The Art of The Good Dinosaur Story with Screenwriter Meg LaFauve and Story Supervisor Kelsey Mann, seeing the how The Good Dinosaur was created using Lighting and Sets to Special Effects, how they brought Arlo to life and hanging out with Director Peter Sohn and Producer Denise Ream around the campfire as they told stories of the research that went into making the film.
