CONGRATS MGMOMMY!

Pest Control Winner

When I was asked to do a review and giveaway from Do My Own Pest Control, I immediately thought of our deck area and how we have to literally fight the flies from attacking us when we try to enjoy a cookout.

I was sent 2 of the Flies-be-Gone fly traps:

“Flies-be-Gone fly trap is one of the most effective non-toxic fly traps available. Each trap is effective for up to four to six weeks and catches thousands of flies over an area of 50 to 100 yards. Flies-be-Gone traps contain are all-natural, maintenance free and completely disposable. Nothing to clean up. For home or commercial use. A farmer’s true friend for use in the poultry industry, on dairy farms, stables, livestock ranches, feed lots and kennels.”

and a bottle of Talstar:

Talstar P (also known as Talstar One or Talstar Professional) Multi-Insecticide with bifenthrin is one of the most trusted and widely-used insecticides by pest control professionals today. The name Talstar P/Talstar One means one professional solution for everything: Talstar insecticide kills over 75 insect pests and can be used for indoor pest control, outdoor pest control, food handling areas, turf and ornamental treatments, in the yard as a yard spray to treat fleas or other yard pests, and even for termite control! Talstar has a long residual, so it keeps on killing pests for over three months after you’ve sprayed it. Plus, Talstar One is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won’t break down easily with rainfall. For termites, ants, mosquitoes, roaches, beetles, spiders, and everything in-between, Talstar insecticide is simply fantastic. 1 Qt. concentrate yields 32-96 finished gallons. Application of Talstar P requires a sprayer.

Since the Holiday was coming, I figured I might as well get a head start and place one of the Flies-be-Gone taps outside to help ward of the fly invasion. The trap itself had everything I needed in the bag, the trap, the bait, a string to hang it, all I had to do was add 2 quarts of water. I would suggest that when assembling the trap, to do it outside, the smell of the bait is really strong, which is a good thing for the floes, just make sure you are in a ventilated area.

I added the bait and the water, put the little red top on and hung it outside. It’s pretty hot here, so within a few hours we has our first victim inside the bag. They said it could take awhile for the bait to attract the flies, but we had no issues with that.

Here’s our completed Flies-be-Gone fly trap:

I think I put too much water, but as you will see in the next photo, it did not matter one bit.

Here’s the trap after 3 days (it’s kind of gross):

So as you can see for yourself, they work! We had our 4th of July celebration and didn’t have to use any sprays, fly swatters or be annoyed! Yay!

UPDATE: I HAD to take a picture, this is the Fly Trap after 7 days, see all the black at the top, it’s FLIES! I had to get my husband to take the photo cause it skeeved me out to be near it! Man, do they work!

  1. I would get a spider control kit & cobweb eliminator!! Too many spiders in our back yard!

  2. I would get the mouse/ insect glue boards. And some wasp spray.

  3. Flea kit. Already had an exterminator come in. These things must be wearing suits of armor.

  5. OMGoodness! I need the fly bait! I am a farmer (we have 9 poultry houses) and the flies are horrible! I really need this! What I have to do now is every morning and every night when the sun is down and it is cool out (yes Di we are both insomniacs) I have to spray fly spray on the porch in front of the doors and around the door frame so that it is soaking wet. That way when it gets hot and the flies come out it evaporates keeping them. Out but is expensive lol
