We have three cats, the newest, Mia, is a budding escape artist who loves to knock screens out of open windows. We first learned of this behavior thanks to our Arlo Smart Home Security System by Netgear. We had recently started using the Arlo Smart Home Security Camera system a week before and it has already proven itself to us.

Setting up the Arlo Smart Home Security System, using the included instructions was simple and easy to complete. The cameras can be mounted just about anywhere you can think to mount them with the included magnetic mounts, which, are, a lot stronger than I expected them to be. Adding the router to the system was no problem, all of the cables needed are included in the package along with easy to follow instructions. I had the whole system up and running within ten minutes of unboxing.

The quality of the image from the camera is outstanding and, through the settings, you can choose the level of video quality/battery life. The higher the quality of the image, the faster the batteries will drain. These are not the normal AA batteries you are used to seeing, these use CR123 type batteries so you need to be careful of how often you access the cameras. The batteries are easy enough to find online and may I suggest investing in some rechargeable batteries as they can go through a set of 4, per camera, in a couple of weeks.

You can set these cameras to alert you of any movement by setting a time frame in the settings section. We have ours starting at dusk and going to dawn, any movement detected sends an alert to the devices we set up, in our case, our cell phones. You can also have email alerts sent to you and even text messages, you can also opt not to have any alerts sent to you. This is great when away from the house. The only thing to watch out for is data usage on your cell phone if you aren’t connected to Wi-Fi. It can chew through your data.

Back to Mia, as you can see here, she escaped and Arlo caught it, alerted our oldest son and within minutes and our escape artists were back inside and the screen was put back in place. Without Arlo, our cats would have been outside until we woke up a few hours later.

We also caught sight of giant spiders attacking our house. That was a close one. 😉
