August 30th is National Holistic Pet Day, take some time reading about how you can take a holistic approach in caring for your pet.
My dog Radar is prone to hot spots on the inside of his back leg. These hot spots can be very irritating especially when the weather is also very hot. The hot spots also get red and scaley, so Radar takes to licking them to soothe the heat and the itch but it ends up exacerbating the problem and it then becomes a vicious circle.
I was sent a Full Spectrum Hemp Healing Balm from a company called Holistic Hound, that sounded like just what we needed to get rid of this hot spot.
Holistic Hound, the store, was started by Heidi Hill in 2003 in Berkeley, California and is a combination of her two lifelong passions: animals and holistic healthcare. Her mission was to improve the health and wellness of our animal companions through a holistic approach that focuses on nutrition, complementary therapies, and education.
The Healing Balm uses full-spectrum hemp oil with 150 mg of CBD as well as other antioxidant-rich oil like coconut, almond, avocado amongst others. It comes in a little jar and is formulated so that a little goes a long way. You really only need to use a small amount because it glides on the skin and covers a large area.
We put some on Radar’s hot-spot and you could really smell it, it sort of smells like sort of like tea tree or eucalyptus oil. The smell dissipates after a while and I didn’t find it bothersome. We used it daily and within 2 days it was completely gone. As you can see by the after photo below, the area is a bit lighter, but the redness and scaly skin is completely gone. Another great perk of the balm is that it is ok for him to ingest, in fact, I found that when he did lick the balm he was calmer since it contains CBD, so the anxiety he normally has was also helped.
I am really impressed with Holistic Hound’s Healing Balm and will continue to use the product for any future hot-spot breakouts or any itching, irritation, dryness, and or pain that may arise. I have two very active dogs, so I am pretty sure I will be using it at any given time.

Again, Radar is a little high-strung, so anything that can chill him out and is natural, I am all for.
