Jumpstart.com is an online educational site geared toward children 3-12. I had the pleasure of trying it out with my 7 year old and truth be told, I played a lot of the games myself.
There is nothing to download and no discs to buy. Once you sign in, you are part of Jumpstart’s virtual world. To take part in this virtual world, you will be asked to create a Jumpee, which is basically an avatar of your child. My son and I had fun choosing one that looked like him and then choosing a name out of the fun and silly options like Nik Bouncy Head. We had so much fun laughing at that we almost forgot to start exploring.
Now it was off to explore all of the different worlds like AdventureLand, FutureLand, MarineLand and others, there are so many options to choose from your child will spend hours exploring all of the places within the game. We chose FutureLand since it is geared towards older children in grades 3 to 5.
There is a control panel, or “home page” where your child can access all of the lands, see their buddies, send messages, read the latest news and more.
While they are playing games, learning and having fun doing various activities, they also earn coins which can be used to purchase in-game items like clothing and other items. They also have a section called the Enchanted Sanctuary, where kids can hatch and raise their very own dragons! Nik loved this section the most!
Overall, we really enjoyed Jumpstart.com and are still exploring it today. My son can play the games without help and learn along the way but most importantly, play safely. He really enjoyed all of the worlds and discovering everything on his own, not to mention, meeting some new friends along the way.
