Product Review | Gourmet Nut Sea Salts

Gourmet Nut offers a wide variety of sea salts from Himalayan Pink Salt to Hiwa Kai Hawaiian black salt. Pink and Black salt? Yep, when I received them I was so fascinated with the colors, and thought how awesome they would be for presentation in various dishes.  I was also happy to have more sea salts to add to my arsenal. I had switched from traditional table salts to sea salts mainly because I enjoy the coarser texture.

I was sent Himalayan Pink Salt, Hiwa Kai Hawaiian Sea Salt, and Northwest Alderwood Sea Salt to try.

Himalayan Pink Salt is so pretty! The color is a pale pink and is a pure, hand-mined salt found naturally deep inside the pristine Himalayan mountains. Rich in its mineral content this salt is used a lot in gourmet cooking for its presentation. Use it for cooking, grilling, seasoning, roasting, and of course presentation.

I made dark chocolate salted caramel candies one year for the holidays, and this salt would look beautiful sprinkled on top!

The Hiwa Kai Hawaiian Sea Salt is black in color, and pretty darn striking, if I do say so myself.  It contains activated charcoal which gives it that unique black color, and distinct flavor.

I used it in my popcorn, and really loved the taste. It’s not a big difference, it is subtle, but you can tell, and to me it just seemed to have a cleaner taste if that makes sense.

If you love smokey flavors, you will love the Northwest Alderwood Sea Salt. It is a new breed of natural smoked salt that is slow smoked over real alder wood, giving it its authentic smoke flavor. When you open the jar the smokey aroma immediately hits you.  This salt would be amazing on a grilled steak, or salmon, burgers, and even in a stew.
