Better Things, a new comedy series from Pamela Adlon and Louis CK, premiered last week on FX. For my 80’s peeps out there, Pamela played Kelly on Facts of Life back in the day. Pamela Adlon is “Sam Fox,” a single, working actor with no filter trying to raise her three daughters – “Max” (Mikey Madison), “Frankie” (Hannah Alligood) and “Duke” (Olivia Edward) – in Los Angeles. She is mom, dad, referee and the cops.

Sam also watches out for her mother, “Phil” (Celia Imrie), an English expatriate, who lives across the street. Sam’s just trying to earn a living, navigate her daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two and also — just maybe — squeeze in some private time once in a while.
Better Things is a show that I can relate to on so many levels.
Top 3 relatable scenes:
- Unclogging the toilet. I have boys, so hearing “Mom, I clogged the toilet” happens on a daily basis in my house.
- Daughter tweezing her Mom’s chin, yeah, not proud but that happens and it’s hilarious when her daughter asking if it’s going to happen to her and she tells her no. Hah!
- Chasing a dog in the middle of night down the street, I’ve done that with a cat, so yeah.

I may not be a single Mom like Sam, but having kids of my own and feeling her pain in some of the scenes is just a universal Mom thing, we all “get” it. I really enjoyed the first show, and am looking forward to following Sam and her kids as they get through life.
Take look……..

Fresh is one I can relate to. I love Louis C.K.
I can totally relate to chasing a dog down the street! Our dog got out one day when I was chaperoning a field trip to the pool, we were walking to the park and I had to turn around chase and catch our dog and take him home and then catch up to my son’s class .
The Smoke Detector is something I can relate to.
Thanks for the contest.
The Smoke Detector one. I swear a million kids seem to come out of my son’s room whenever something happens.
I can totally relate to the Rude Awakening clip. My dog is always waking me up with her scratching or gnawing at her skin. Ugh.
I can totally relate to the smoke detector! 😆
Smoke detector for sure! Happened just the other day.
Bed Eye
I can relate to the blowout scene.
The Pillow clip was thought provoking!
I dont have kids myself but i have a niece and cousins and when they cry I just let them cry and keep going, lol. But i dont think ill ever explain to strangers they dont need an explanation.
Nothing really but it looks enjoyable
I can relate to the smoke detector!
Omg all of it! Lol but if I have to pick one I’d say smoke detector scene
I just became a single mom myself (well, let’s be honest; I’ve always been a single mom, lol. Ex husband was never around and never helped anyways). My daughter is only 5, but I foresee moments just like these in my future!
I can relate to bed eye. Lots of mornings like that with kids.
I totally relate to life being TV MA LS!! Mine is
I can relate to the Better Things “Pillow” clip.Sometimes I feel the need to scream too!
I don’t have kids, but I relate to the Bed Eye clip. I hate being disturbed when I’m sleeping.
I can relate to the “Smoke Detector” clip. We have smoke detector problems on occasion and I can see my family panicking like they did in the clip also!
I cant imagine raising 3 girls alone. I relate to her being a single mom. I watched the First Look clip and enjoyed getting the main character’s perspective on it.
I like the smoke detector clip. I think its funny and familiar that she is unaware of how many friends her teen has over and when they got their.
Blow out!!
I can relate to the pillow clip
The “Pillow” scene is so relatable. I live in a house with a 12 year old girl. I so get it.
I watched the pilot episode- I can totally relate to falling asleep in my kids’ beds!
The Pillow scene. I feel that way most mornings around here with a 12 year old daughter.
Definitely falling asleep with my 5 year old daughter! I know better than to lay there like that but it Never Fails! I ALWAYS fall into the TRAP, LOL.
I can relate to the smoke detector clip. More than once, too!
I can relate to the dropping the purse scene. It doesn’t happen all the time, but I have to get used to carrying a purse since I haven’t used one in a very long time
I like the Fresh clip because I want to stay looking young as long as possible
I can totally relate to the smoke detector and freaking out. I could see my family doing this!
The smoke detector. I have issues with smoke detectors!
I like the Bed Eye clip because my kids like to disturb me when I am resting.
The smoke detector! One day mine will probably save my life.
Bed eye!! I do that but more to my husband than the kids. Dude I don’t need to wake up at 4 am!

Smoke detector. You gotta know it!
The smoke detector! #BetterThings #BetterThingsGiveaway
Aww! Smoke detector!!
I can totally relate to the rude awakening clip hah. Thank you so much for the chance.
There are lots of things I can relate to in this series. Bed Eye really does capture how it feels to be so desperate for just a little more rest that you are afraid to even stir a muscle. My kids are eternal interrupters and rest is a precious commodity. I also liked Dr.’s Office– Being in a gown on the table and dealing with your own health can be difficult and this really captured how it can feel. Lots of funny and real moments.
The smoke detectors!!!!! This happen to me all the time! This show is hysterical
Love the rude awakening, with four kids this happens a lot.
The Smoke Detector!!! Every single time!!! LOL
My daughter ALSO never wears pants. Of course she is 6 and not 16… also rude awakening. Omg. YES.
I just watched “Dr. Office” and I think I should go in for a check-up! LOL
Big fan of Louis CK! Can so relate to the smoke detector one! I have a broom nearby so I can hit it if I set it off! 🙂
I relate most to the Bed Eye clip. I hate to be disturbed while sleeping
I can relate to shopping for school supplies and wishing I could find an employee to help.
