Review: I had the chance to see Big Hero 6 for the first time since missing it in the theaters. We made it a part of our weekly family movie night and loved every minute of the film. My boys laughed throughout the entire movie, we all did, and we all fell in love with Baymax.
I can’t really go into the meat of the story without ruining it for you, but let me just say, if you had any pre-conceived notions about this movie, let them go, it will surprise you.
Set in the future in the city of San Fransokyo, we meet Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) who is a boy genius who loves fighting microbots in his spare time, much to the dismay of his older brother, Tadashi (Daniel Henney). Tadashi is also a genius and goes to college where he tries to help Hiro harness his robotic talents.
We meet Tadashi’s school friends, GoGo (Jamie Chung), Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez), and Fred (T.J. Miller) who all play a big part in the remainder of the movie. Without giving too much away, we meet funny, a marshmallow-like robot named Baymax (Scott Adsit), a healthcare robot that his brother created and the humor turns up ten-fold. We laughed so much at his antics, and you will too.
This is a great family movie, it’s funny, sad, touching and smart.
