This past Friday, August 2nd, Disney Channel’s Descendants 3 premiered to a record crowd. The third and final installment was bittersweet since the tragic death of actor Cameron Boyce in July. I will admit, it was even hard for me to watch without feeling sad seeing this bright star gone so soon. I was a fan of his from the previous 2 movies, and I was fortunate enough to meet him.

Disney released the following touching tribute after the movie aired.

In this installment Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay return to the Isle of the Lost to recruit a new batch of villainous offspring to join them at Auradon Prep. When a barrier breach jeopardizes the safety of Auradon during their departure off the Isle, Mal resolves to permanently close the barrier, fearing that nemeses Uma and Hades will wreak vengeance on the kingdom. Despite her decision, an unfathomable dark force threatens the people of Auradon, and it’s up to Mal and the VKs to save everyone in their most epic battle yet.

I don’t like to give away any of the movie but I will say that I loved the main messages – tolerance and forgiveness, something this world needs more of. I also like the way they present “good and evil” within the characters. I enjoyed seeing Cheyenne Jackson as Hercules villain Hades and Audrey (Sarah Jeffery) have more of a juicier role getting her revenge against Mal.

Just like the previous movies, there are dance scenes, fights, and lots of great catchy music. It was cute and I feel like it was the best way to end the trilogy.

The DVD features never-before-seen bonus material that includes a blooper reel, which is always my favorite extra, deleted scenes and Under The Sea: A Descendants Short Story!
