Migraines can be difficult to deal with no matter who you are. Especially as patients live with migraines for long periods of time, migraine triggers can become much more prevalent and migraines themselves can become more intense. However, anybody can experience migraines. Luckily, there are lots of different methods that people use to treat them, and the link between diet and migraine can be included in that roster.

Of course, everyone is unique, and each person’s diet is unique, but there are plenty of food tips that might help to reduce migraines and provide relief. If you’re wondering what to eat to help migraine improvement, here are a few foods for migraine relief.

Avoid Caffeine

Many people find that caffeine — specifically coffee drinks — can be a migraine trigger. Even though many people rely on caffeine to get through the day, cutting back on caffeine may be worth a try.

Avoid Dairy

Dairy can be a very inflammatory food group, and many people find that it aggravates a variety of medical issues, including migraines. Even without food triggers, inflammation can sometimes exacerbate migraines, so you may want to try going for that vegan cheese next time.

Avoid Chocolate

Unfortunately, chocolate can also be a trigger for migraines. Even though this delicious treat may be okay in moderation, 2-22% of migraine sufferers conclude that chocolate seems to have an impact on their symptoms.

Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol can cause a variety of symptoms that make you feel less than your best. When it comes to headaches, alcohol consumption can lead directly to migraines, especially when drinking in excess.

Eat Greens

Leafy green vegetables and other green foods can be great for treating migraines due to their richness in magnesium and other nutrients. These are good foods to eat anyway, so you might as well give it a try.

Eat Fish

Omega-3 fatty acids can be great for treating migraines, which makes fish the perfect food to incorporate into your diet in order to ward off that nasty headache. Fish like salmon can be a fantastic choice, or even taking fish oil supplements. Seeds and legumes can also be great to satisfy this need.

Eat Your Water

One major migraine trigger that many people experience is dehydration. Although you can get rid of that dehydration by drinking lots of water — which you should also be doing — you can absolutely eat hydrating foods like fruits and lettuce in order to get that hydration in!

How Diet Can Provide Migraine Relief

Even if it doesn’t solve the whole issue and make you completely migraine-free, there are definitely foods you can gravitate towards and foods you can avoid to help you along the way. If you’ve ever wondered, “Can diet impact migraines?” you might just have your answer. Of course, everybody has their own triggers and sensitivities, and you may not figure everything out right away, but you may be able to find a little bit of help and healing.
