To speak to some pet owners, you would think that feeding your dog human food was a crime! Yes, it’s worth noting that some ingredients are not suitable for pooches, and you want to stay away from them like the plague. For example, the American Kennel Club says that canines shouldn’t be given chocolate under any circumstances as it’s poisonous.
Still, to say that all regular grub is unhealthy for dogs is wrong. In reality, just like there are things you shouldn’t feed your pet, there’s some stuff that you may want to consider adding to their diet. Here are the reasons why.
It’s Good For Their Skin
Dogs and humans need to take care of their skin as it’s the biggest organ on both bodies. Mostly, canines’ coats are fluffy and lush, which are healthy signs. However, you never know what’s going on under the surface. Plus, even if your pet’s fur is luxurious, you shouldn’t take your foot off the gas by getting sloppy. Thankfully, there’s no reason to with the help of coconut. Not only is it okay for dogs to eat, but it clears up routine skin conditions as it contains a component called “lauric acid.” LA is effective at killing viruses and bacteria, too.

And Their Immune Systems
Part of the reason dogs and humans are best friends is that they are similar. Yep, your pet may appear different in every way, but the foods you eat react the same way in your pet’s body. Therefore, ingredients with a reputation for being immune system boosters are as useful for your dog as they are for you! Some will be unsuitable, yet others will be ideal. Chicken is the perfect example, as dogs love meat. Of course, what you may not realize is that the poultry contains anti-inflammatories that negate everything from colds to the flu. The same is true of fish.
Dogs Get Bored
If you’ve ever wondered why your pet won’t eat, it may not be as dramatic as you imagine. Sure, a lack of appetite could be down to a health issue that’s causing them to eat less. On the other hand, it could be that your pooch is bored with eating the same meals day in, day out, and wants a change. In that case, adding an extra portion of human food to their bowl should get them to chow down again!

It’s Not A Waste
Lastly, there is the eco-friendly element to feeding your dog human food. Humans are terrible for making too much and throwing it away because it’s the easy option. Not only does this cost you money, but it’s immoral when people are going hungry in other countries. At least by giving the leftovers to man’s best friend, nothing will go to waste. Plus your pet will benefit from all of the above, too. Don’t treat them like dustbins, though, as they’ll grow bigger than a house end!
What do you think? Are you for or against?
