Summertime, what do you think of when you think of Summer as a child? I know one of the memories I have that comes flooding back to me every summer is of the ice cream man. As soon as I hear that music in our neighborhood I turn into a 10 year old. There is just something about ice cream on a hot Summer day.
This year for the holiday we decided to have some friends and family over to celebrate. Although it wasn’t a bright and sunny day we made the best of it and still had a wonderful time. Along with the typical cook out foods we always have, we wanted to do something special for everyone by having an ice cream social. Have you ever had one or been to one before. They are super fun and have all the main ingredient that people love, ICE CREAM!
We bought a few of our favorite brands like Popsicle, Magnum, Breyers, Ben & Jerry’s and Klondike bars. I took a roasting pan and filled it with ice to put all of the ice cream that we were serving on display. This way it was easy for everyone to pick and choose their favorite ice cream and kept them all nice and cold on a warm day.
Since we were celebrating the 4th we bought the Popsicle classic red, white, and blue Firecracker’s for the kids, remember them? I loved them as a child and there’s just something about having them on the 4th that makes it even more special. Of course Klondike bars are also a huge favorite for most, so I knew my boys would be happy with both choices.
As you can see, Klondike again was the pick of my niece. My great nephew came back a second time, first for a Firecracker and then the second time for a mini Ben & Jerry’s, which was perfect for his little hands. The little ones were in heaven when they saw the pan of ice cream, it was a dream come true for them.
You know what else would work just as well? Get a small plastic pool and fill it with ice and add your favorite ice cream and serve at your next cookout or family party. It’s so simple to do and the kids will love it! So will the adults, I guarantee it!
My friends and their little one enjoyed the Magnum mini’s and the Firecracker from Popsicle, I told you they would be a hit. For those that wanted a bit more, we bought Breyers Thin Mint cookie because who doesn’t love thin mints?
I think we had a little something for everyone, the adults went more for the Magnum bars and the little ones went for the classic Firecracker pops like I thought they would. Overall it was a wet but fantastic day spent with my loved ones. Think about hosting an ice cream social during your next family get together.
