If you looked in my fridge at any given time you would be sure to find avocados. When I was little I was just like my youngest son, if it looked funny, there was no way in the world I would even think about eating it. As I got older I got more adventurous with trying new foods and to my surprise liked a lot of them, especially avocados.

With only 50 calories per ounce (around three slices), and sodium and cholesterol free, and also chock full of healthy fats, vitamins and minerals, avocados are the perfect addition to a healthy meal. Let’s not forget guacamole, with Football season starting, everyone has a recipe they love to share while watching the big game.

My recipe is representative of my hometown, Baltimore, MD. If you have ever been to my town then you know that “Maryland is for Crabs” and with that being said, here’s a delicious recipe to get a little taste of Baltimore for yourself:

Maryland Crab cake and Avocado Sandwich

  • 1 Maryland Crab cake (Homemade or bought from any local seafood market, MUST BE A MARYLAND MADE CRAB CAKE).
  • 3 or 4 slices of fresh avocado
  • Mayonnaise to taste
  • Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 Kaiser roll

Spread mayonnaise on both sides of kaiser roll, place crab cake on roll and then add slices of fresh avocado on top, sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning to taste – more is always better and serve with Old Bay chips!
