Our Review
TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, and language.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the latest movie in the Transformers franchise, placed in the timeline between the Bumblebee movie and the first in the series.
Let’s just start with the look of the movie. As expected in a franchise that relies so heavily on CGI, the special effects were very well done. The action sequences align with other Transformer movies, visually stunning and exciting. The attention to detail in the robot designs is excellent as each robot has a unique look and personality.

In the movie we get the introduction to the Maximals, a new twist to the Transformers universe that adds an interesting and compelling backstory to the history of the Transformers and the Earth. Their story adds to how Optimus Prime and the Autobots look at Earth and humans.
The film does fall short in certain aspects. The plot is somewhat predictable, following the typical “save the world” storyline we have seen in all the other Transformer movies. The character development relies on already knowing the characters, even though this movie is a prequel to the rest of the series so that can be a little confusing to new viewers of the series.

Overall, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a fun movie to watch. Any of the shortcomings in the film are definitely made up with the spectacle of giant robots fighting, things blowing up, and the introduction of the biggest robot seen to date.
