You have most likely heard of DNA tests, those that trace your family roots but have you heard of DNA tests that provide insight into the ways your DNA may have an impact on how your body responds to food and nutrients?

That is exactly what Orig3n DNA Tests do. These tests give you insight into your nutrition, fitness, skin, behavior and more. By collecting your DNA, you will have the genetic data that could help you make better choices, help your current health situation and even avoid future health issues.

I was sent the NUTRITION DNA test kit so I could get a better understanding of how my body reacts to certain foods, if it is genetically predisposition to not like a certain food and even my body’s potential to absorb and process vitamins. I wanted this kit because I have a hard time maintaining my weight and with having Celiac, I have a hard time absorbing and retaining vitamins. I wanted to see just what the test results would say, would it back up what I’ve been told?

The kit contains a swab for your DNA collection, and a prepaid envelope to send in the swab. All you need to do is swab your cheek for 30 seconds, then send it back in the prepaid envelope.

You will then download the Orig3n LifeProfile app and register your swab sample. You will receive updates when they receive your sample, when they start testing it and when your report is ready. It took a total of one month to receive mine, but depending on the test could take longer.

My results were interesting, there were things that I already knew, but reading how many other people had the same gene was very interesting. They broke it down into three categories:

Normal – A normal result means that you have the same variant for a given gene that most people do.  I learned about weight regain, alcohol tolerance, appetite, lactose intolerance, and even cilantro aversion.

Gifted – A gifted result means you may have a genetic variant that may be beneficial to you. This one was interesting in that went into detail about my ability to taste bitter things and might explain why I love most cruciferous vegetables that brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and more.

Adapt –  A adapt result means that you have a gene variant that might but you at a slight disadvantage. This one was very interesting since it really showed my vitamin deficiencies like Vitamin D and vitamin B12. I will definitely be asking my Doctor to run some additional tests to see where my vitamin levels are.

I really liked this test, it was so unique and provided insight to why I have some nutrition issues.  I will definitely implement some of the findings to see if my health gets better. I have a special code for you to try one of the kits for yourself.
