A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people in this hilarious and action-packed adventure.

I have no connection to the history behind the movie, as far as the game is concerned, so like we like to do here, I gave the task of reviewing the movie to my husband since he has been a big fan of D&D from way back.

Mykl’s Review

As a long-time fan of Dungeons & Dragons, I played D&D with my friends in grade school, I was extremely hopeful when I saw the first trailers for the movie. I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive as too many movies these days have taken memories from my childhood and created something absolutely horrible. I’m sure you could list a few of those abominations yourselves.

I can comfortably say that in this case, they got it right. One of the movie’s greatest strengths lies in its faithful representation of the rich and imaginative fantasy world that D&D is known for. From the moment the film begins, viewers are transported into a realm filled with mythical creatures, awe-inspiring landscapes, and exciting characters. The attention to detail in the set designs and CGI is remarkable, effectively bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen.

The casting choices in the movie were well made, with every actor bringing their character to life.  The chemistry between the characters feels genuine, creating moments of humor, tension, and camaraderie that are reminiscent of a thrilling D&D campaign. The character growth in the film was well done and fit well within the story.

REGÉ-JEAN PAGE plays Xenk and Jason Wong plays Dralas in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves from Paramount Pictures and eOne.

The film doesn’t pull back on the fan service at all, in fact, they dive right into it. Seeing some of the monsters I grew up with playing D&D all night in their full CGI glory was fantastic! I was calling out the names of the monsters when they appeared on the screen. It was awesome!

Daisy Head plays Sofina in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves from Paramount Pictures and eOne.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Dungeons & Dragons had me happy, sad, angry, excited, and hopeful that a second movie may be in the works. It’s not often Hollywood gets something like this right but when they do, it’s a gem. This is a big ole gem of a movie.
