Smurfs: The Lost Village Movie Out Today on DVD, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray

SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE has a run time of approximately 89 minutes and has a PG rating for some mild action and rude humor.

Movie Synopsis

SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE follows Smurfette and her friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!

Review

The movie centers around Smurfette (voiced by Demi Lovato), who is riddled with self-doubt because she thinks she will let the Smurfs down. Gargamel, after all, made her invade The Smurfs village and provide him with information. In her heart, she can’t bring herself to harm her friends in any way because they love and accept her even though she is the only girl.

She embarks on a journey to the “Forbidden Forest” after seeing another Smurf, one that she doesn’t know. Throughout the movie, she is on a mission to save the Smurfs, and while she is doing so she finds an entire city, The Lost City of S where there are, to her surprise, more Smurfs –  GIRL SMURFS! – Yep, there are more girls and they are lead by SmurfWillow (Julia Roberts). Of course there is some trepidation but in the end, they all join together to fight Gargamel.

Positive Aspects

Girl Power! Seriously, I was happy about the introduction to more girl Smurfs because come on, all of the women who have watched them for years have always wanted more females. Plus, it showed the power within to do the right thing and to be brave.

Negative Aspects

Some may not like the potty humor used but I didn’t find too offensive and most children will find it funny.

Language/Sexual Content/Violence

Again, some potty humor and some flirting with Smurfette, but nothing blatantly overtly sexual. It’s all pretty tame, even the Smurf violence is what you would expect from a cartoon where they are on an adventure. In this case, flowers that grab them and then spit them out, fireflies throwing fireballs and the like.

Overall Thoughts

It’s a predictable Smurf movie with a cute story. It is, however, predictable to an adult, not so predictable to a child who will get wrapped up in the story and the brightly colored graphics.
